The original owner is Andy Makinen, grew up making handcrafted toys with his grandfather, Zimmer Makinen. He knew the importance of fine detail and craftsmanship when it came to anything he did. He graduated with an arts degree and a business degree in 1978 and started helping his grandfather full time. In 1979, his grandfather passed away and Andy decided to continue the business full time and named the store after his grandfather. HitNSpin Toy Store officially opened up in Helsinki in 1980.

Since then, Andy has been continuously making his hand crafted toys and selling them alongside the mainstream toys from bigger companies.
